Tiny packages

I adore my rats.  They are even more intelligent that I had first believed.  In less than three weeks, I have taught two of them tricks.  Ricki jumps on his box to get his treats and Tavi sticks his head through a tiny hole in another box.  May not seem astounding to most but considering these were animals that were probably rarely handled by humans, it shows a lot of trust.  Each has a personality entirely his own.  Ricki is the more outgoing of his brothers and was the first to climb onto my lap.  Ticki, a little more subdued than Ricki but still not a wall flower.  He tends to take his treats and hide while he eats them.  Tavi is the most shy of the three.  He still will not climb into my hand.  Ricki, will kiss your nose and never mistakes hand for treat.  Ticki, frequently gets excited while taking food and has bitten me several times on accident.  Tavi, the more cautious of the three takes his treats very delicately.  It may come to a surprise to you that at one point and time I was quite terrified of rats.  It wasn't always that way.  I've wanted rats since I was a child.  But along came a blind albino rat named Subway.  I was badly bitten by him one evening when I picked him up and startled him.  I was very untrusting of the rodents from that point on and guarded my fingers.  For whatever reason, I have had very little fear of my three boys.  Even the first night we had them and I took them out of their box, I was certain they would not bite me.  And thankfully, to this day, there has been no blood shed.

snowy

We finally received some snow today.  It really couldn't have come on a worse day for me.  I have to drive Jasmine to the doctor for her 18 month check-up and I've never driven in snow.  I know it sounds ridiculous but I've only actually had my license for a few years and avoid driving most winters.  I have a husband, I make him do it.  I'm still holding out, hoping he'll be able to get off work and drive us there.  I'm such a wimp.  I just don't want to, oh I don't know, DIE.  I don't like driving in the first place, let alone when it's slick outside.  And it doesn't help that the stuff under the snow, is called ice.

Our house

I decided to invite you all into my house.  It's not the cleanest it's ever been but I have an excuse, she's about two feet tall and weighs 20lbs.  Enjoy!

Ratty rat tat

Jasmine is doing much better now.  Her cough even sounds better than it did.  And she's finally eating.  The doctor gave me medicine to get her to sleep on a normal schedule but it's been difficult to get it down her.  She either throws it up or spits it all out.  It tastes absolutely awful.  Poor kid.  I tried tricking her with kool-aid but she didn't fall for it.

My rats are officially named, Rikki, Tikki and Tavi.  We set up a play area for them in the back bedroom and let them out for about an hour today.  Jasmine wants to pick them up but I think she'll squeeze them.  I'm enjoying them even more than I thought I would.

Does anyone know how to measure for curtains/drapes?  (in laymen's terms please) We have a gift certificate to the JCpenney home store and I want to get drapes for the living room and curtains for the kitchen.  We've even picked out which ones we want, I just don't know how to measure everything out.

what a weekend

We spent Saturday night at the ER.  We were worried that Jasmine was dehydrated from throwing up.  She wasn't but it took five hours for them to tell us we could leave.  Let me tell you, sick babies don't like being in a hospital that long for nothing.  She's feeling better today it seems.  She's still coughing and her nose is still running but at least she isn't throwing up anymore.  When we got home around 7am, we all passed out until about midnight the next night.  I think it's safe to say we were exhausted.

I had a doctor's appointment today.  It was for my RLS.  For now he gave me sleeping pills for me and Jasmine so we can get on a normal sleep schedule.  If it's still bothering me in a month he's going to send me to a neurologist.

After the doc, we went and adopted three male rats.  They're already pretty friendly.  I hate how short their lifespan is.  (1-3 years)  Shawn wanted ferrets but then again, he doesn't have to clean their cages.
